Overview of Highscreen Black Box Full HD and Black Box HD-mini Plus

In this review I want to talk about two new video recorders from the Russian company "Vobis Computer", the owner of the trademark Highscreen. Presented in October 2012, Highscreen Black Box Full HD and Highscreen Black Box HD-mini Plus became the fifth and sixth model of the company. Let me remind you that in 2011 the manufacturer entered the market of car DVRs with Highscreen Black Box, followed by Highscreen Black Box HD-mini, Highscreen Black Box Radar-HD and Highscreen Black Box Drive.

Highscreen Black Box Full HD is equipped with a 5-megapixel matrix company Aptina and video processor Ambarella A2S60. The gadget records video at a rate of 30 frames per second and with a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The quality of the received videos is pretty decent: such an important detail, like the numbers of other cars, is distinguishable from 10-15 meters. Example video from this model:

The second of today's Highscreen Black Box HD-mini Plus recorders has a 1.3-megapixel CMOS matrix, which makes it possible to record video with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels (the same speed is 30 frames per second) - this is the HD 720p format. I note that these gadgets do not use the popular in inexpensive devices interpolation reception - software video stretching, that is, the resolution is "fair". By the way, both registrars "know how" to start recording automatically when the car engine starts.

In order to save the user from having to monitor the available space on the memory card and manually clean it, the function of cyclic recording is implemented in the Highscreen Black Box Full HD. This means that if there is not enough memory, a new video will be recorded on top of the old one. The gadget splits the video stream into fragments, their duration can be chosen independently - 2, 5 or 10 minutes. It is important that there are no pauses between individual fragments, that is, the recording of the next one begins at the same moment when the previous one ends. The fact is that in cheap models such pauses can reach 3-5 seconds, and on the road this time is enough to miss some important event - here this option is excluded.

If we talk about the Highscreen Black Box HD-mini Plus, then the recording is carried out continuously fragments of two minutes - from turning the device on until it turns off. There is also a button for manual start or stop of video fixing.

To view the footage, both the registrars presented have small screens. In the Highscreen Black Box Full HD, its diagonal is 2.36 inches, and in the Highscreen Black Box HD-mini Plus is 2 inches. By the way, the first gadget has an HDMI-out for connecting to a TV. The presence of built-in batteries allows you to turn off the recorders from the car's on-board network: Highscreen Black Box Full HD can work about one and a half to two hours, and the Highscreen Black Box HD-mini Plus - about an hour.

Separately, we need to talk about the acceleration sensors built into the Highscreen Black Box HD-mini Plus - the so-called G-sensors. They monitor overloads in all three axes, and if the thresholds are exceeded, the following occurs: the recorder stores about a minute of recording before the event (and this can be a blow, sudden braking, turning, falling into a pit - emergency traffic situations) and about a minute after it , and this information is placed on a special non-erasable area of ​​the memory card, which eliminates the overwriting of important fragments for you. The diagram of G-sensor operation and the critical values ​​of overloads can be viewed on the computer with the help of a special program included in the kit. A nice addition is the presence of infrared illumination, which is used in parking mode to illuminate objects near the car.

Highscreen Black Box HD-mini Plus costs about 3.800 rubles. In addition to the DVR, the car kit includes a car mount with a vacuum suction cup and a sticky 3M surface, a cigarette lighter charger, a USB cable, a warranty card and instructions.
