Sony has announced the release of two new 4k-video cameras Hi-end-class. Models PMW-F5 and PMW-F55 fill the gap between the cameras PMW-F3 and F65. Both camcorders are aimed at a professional user, in connection with which they can be considered as competitors of RED products. Prices have not been announced yet, but given the cost of the F65 model ($ 65,000), you can safely assume that the average user will not be able to afford them.
If Sony F5 offers 2k-video, then the resolution of F55 is about 4000 pixels horizontally. CineAlto 4k camcorders support recording in the formats XAVC MPEG-4 AVC / H.264, MPEG-4 SStP and XDCAM 50Mbps 4: 2: 2 (industry standard). Both models can be used with the optional AXS-R5 RAW recorder (F5 up to 120fps and F55 to 240fps in 4K RAW).
Model F55 supports connection to a 30-inch 4k-monitor PVM-X300 and 84-inch TV-LED panel BRAVIA 4k. Both camcorders use the PL mount for versatile lenses. Viewfinders are represented by digital LCD- and OLED-variants. The resolution of the latter: 1280 × 720 pixels, size: 0.7 inches.
The PMW-F5 and PMW-F55 cameras store material on Sony SxS PRO high-speed memory cards with a capacity of 64 GB and 128 GB. The charge of the kit of olivine-lithium-iron-phosphate batteries is sufficient for 150 minutes of sequential shooting. Launch of new products for sale is scheduled for February next year.
